MDWK Teaching - JANUARY
Overwhelmed, overworked, and uncertain. These three words describe an all-too-common experience, and for many, they feel like the norm. But what if adding just one word to our lives could begin to shift that reality?
What word is that, you ask? In Greek, it's eremos.
In English, it's translated as 'wilderness,' 'deserted,' 'solitary,' 'lonely,' or 'quiet place.' Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus consistently retreating to eremos places to connect with the Father.
One powerful example happens early in the Gospel of Mark. After a long day of healing and teaching—stretching late into the night—Jesus was likely exhausted. Yet Mark records:
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to an eremos [solitary place], where he prayed."
Jesus' response to exhaustion wasn’t to push through—it was to seek solitude with the Father.
This January, we invite you to join us as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, exploring the practice of solitude and discovering how this spiritual rhythm can reshape our lives.
